Though this activity was originally created as a math activity, it would be awesome for science classes focusing on scientific notation, too!
Scientific Notation Jumbo Puzzles are a terrific way to practice converting between scientific and standard notation. Even better than that? The puzzle format encourages critical thinking and problem solving. Use the puzzles as a small group activity, and you've added teamwork and cooperation to the mix. Brilliant! These puzzles are great for everyone from large classes to single-student home schools.
Each of the 3 puzzles included in the pack forms a 12" x 12" square when complete...and provides tons of practice with scientific notation.
Puzzles vary in challenge level.
Each puzzle spells out a silly little message, but the letters of the message face every-which-way...that way students can't figure out the direction of each piece without doing the math, but they do get rewarded with a goofy message when the puzzle is complete.
Entire file is 11 pages.
Puzzles will need to be printed and cut out to prepare for students.
